Margo Arneberg
Pre-LIC, Rostered Psychotherapist
After earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Vermont, Margo began her career in mental health at a wraparound service agency working with at-risk youth. This experience sparked her interest in understanding the underlying causes of the challenges she was witnessing. This led her to pursue a master’s degree in cognitive neuroscience at the University of Oslo in Norway, where she focused on how childhood adversity impacts brain development. After working on a research grant evaluating the foster care system in New York City, Margo felt drawn back to direct, relationship-based work with children and families. She returned to school to earn her master’s degree in clinical social work from Columbia University, gaining therapeutic training to support clients in a more personal and meaningful way.
Margo applies her broad background to her practice, bringing experience in child welfare, psychiatric hospitalization, and with families navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, loss, and behavioral challenges. She takes a holistic, strengths-based approach, rooted in the social-work framework where people are seen in the context of their environment. Margo is passionate about helping children build resilience, develop emotional awareness, and strengthen coping skills.
Her work integrates a variety of treatment approaches tailored to each child, including play therapy, art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), somatic practices, mindfulness, parent support, and connecting families to services in the community. Margo works with children and adolescents primarily in the Waterbury office.
In her free time, Margo enjoys being outdoors—hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding. She has also recently discovered a love for pottery and is learning how to throw on the wheel. Margo lives in the beautiful Mad River Valley with her family.
